Zhaoqing Yang, Chief Scientist at PNNL’s Marine Sciences Laboratory in Sequim, Washington, was elected to the Editorial Board of the Journal of Coastal Research.

Journal of Coastal Research is one of the leading international journals for coastal studies and processes. It is published bi-monthly by the Coastal Education and Research Foundation.

Yang, who joined PNNL in 2003, will serve as editor for the journal’s hydrodynamic modeling content. His responsibilities will include assisting the Editor-in-Chief in obtaining comments and suggestions for improving the journal, organizing special issues, and conducting peer review of manuscripts.

Yang’s research spans coastal modeling and analysis, from marine renewable energy to effects of storm surge on coastal infrastructure and ecosystems. Recent areas of focus include resource assessment of marine and hydrokinetic energy, as well as modeling impacts of natural disasters, climate change, and human activities on coastal zones. He leads DOE’s modeling effort on wave and tidal resource characterization and is the lead modeler for PNNL’s high-resolution hydrodynamic model of the Salish Sea.

In addition to his role at PNNL, Yang holds a joint appointment as a distinguished faculty fellow at the University of Washington, and serves as a member of the Journal of Renewable Energy Editorial Board.
