Biography

Mr. Schlafer has been with PNNL since 2015 and is currently a technician in the Coastal Sciences Division of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory at the Marine Sciences Laboratory. Nicholas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from the University of Washington. He was hired as a research associate to work on the Uranium from Seawater project and the ENVVEST project monitoring water quality at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and its surrounding water bodies. Over the past two years working in the EED’s Marine Sciences Laboratory Nicholas has expanded his research examining the behavior, fate, and transport of inorganic and organic contaminants in the marine environment. His responsibilities include sample collection and analysis for; pH, salinity, dissolved organic carbon, nitrogen, dissolved oxygen, and total suspended solids. He has also worked on assembling and compiling data from fieldwork and analytical efforts and performs data reduction for reports, along with performing data reviews for quality assurance purposes.
