Littoral Wave Tank

This mesoscale (5,678 L) circular wave tank (548 cm length x 200 cm width x 152 cm height) is constructed out of 0.25-inch highly corrosion-resistant stainless 316L steel. Waves are generated at one end of the circular tank via a computer controlled wave board that is capable of delivering a range of frequencies (0-60 Hz) and strokes (0-0.2 m). The wave generator also contains a beach module with two large observational windows that allow users to study physical and chemical processes at the sediment-water interface.

Inside the tank, there is a large heat-exchanger unit that allows for rapid cooling or heating of seawater in the tank. Seawater can be cooled to -2°C or heated to 30°C. This wave tank has two large opposing windows for observation and six sampling ports with waterproof septa.
