Detailed bathymetric measurements for modeling and research operations

Detailed bathymetric measurements for modeling and research operations

MSL has multiple venues within Sequim Bay for in-water research where we design and test instruments, systems, and operations. These studies include passive acoustic monitoring for devices and animals, active sonar for detecting fish and marine mammals, active LiDAR, electromagnetic effects, and developing surface and subsurface detection systems. In addition, we deploy small, early-stage energy generation devices. For this project, we first have to find a location to monitor the power and then we can conduct a range of studies around each device. Finally, for researchers interested in installing equipment throughout Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, MSL can provide the following:

  • up-to-date bathymetric survey and current data
  • data and communications systems (including secure over-water wireless systems)
  • hydrodynamic modelling
  • algorithm development
  • environmental monitoring
  • permitting
